Stagecoach Manchester and Prevent Breast Cancer have set a Guinness World Records title for the World’s biggest tutu to raise awareness of the charity’s ‘Take on the Tutu’ campaign.
Ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Stagecoach Manchester linked up with its charity of the year, Prevent Breast Cancer, to publicise the fight against the disease by dressing one of its double-decker buses in a 26 metre-long tutu at Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens.
The record-breaking tutu, which was designed by custom clothing manufacturer Fight Label, beat the previous best by 23 metres and caught the imagination of passers-by with many stopping for photos alongside the unique dress.
Manchester-based Prevent Breast Cancer’s ‘Take on the Tutu’ campaign encourages people to wear a tutu while taking part in fundraising activities, whether it be a charity bike ride or a bake sale at work.
Talking about the Guinness World Records title, Stagecoach Manchester’s managing director, Christopher Bowles, said: “We decided to create something unique to capture the imagination of local people and to get them thinking about how they can help the fight against a disease which affects too many people.
“Our staff voted to support Prevent Breast Cancer as our chosen charity last year, and the whole workforce has shown a great deal of support towards the charity over the past twelve months and will continue to do so moving forwards. We now have a Guinness World Records title for our efforts, but the most important thing from this attempt is to continue to help spread the message that the fight against breast cancer continues.”
Lester Barr, chairman of Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “As the country’s only charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we rely solely on our supporters’ fundraising efforts to carry out our research, so unique events that help us to spread our message are invaluable.

Prevent Breast Cancer undertakes ground-breaking research into the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, a disease which over 50,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with each year. The charity aims to create a breast cancer-free future for the next generation and the charity has helped to support countless families with their diagnosis since its formation in 1996.
Andrew Doherty, Matthew Evans and Thomas Stott of local tailoring service Doherty, Evans and Stott were on hand to act as expert witnesses and assist with measuring the tutu.
