Arriva North West has revealed it will be an official travel partner for Liverpool 2018 which celebrates ten years since the city’s game-changing year as European Capital of Culture.

To make travelling into the city centre easier during the anniversary celebrations, residents in the North West are being urged to travel by bus in a bid to reduce congestion in the region.

A programme of exciting events are taking place throughout the year, and Arriva will be providing free shuttle bus services, special ticket offers, and journey planning advice to people visiting Liverpool to help them get as close to the action as possible. Arriva hopes that this will also help people get home safely after enjoying the festivities.

Lisa Pearson, Head of Marketing for Arriva North West commented: “We are very excited to be celebrating ten years since Liverpool was crowned European Capital of Culture. It’s going to be a fantastic time for celebration and we really want people to enjoy themselves without the worry where to park the car or how to get home after a long day out.

“We’ve been truly invested in improving transport links throughout the region over the last decade to help increase footfall into the city centre, so we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Liverpool.”

Arriva will be providing shuttle buses for the internationally renowned Liverpool International Music Festival, which takes place Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July 2018.

In 2014, Arriva North West partnered with Culture Liverpool providing a custom-made bus which formed part of Memories of August 1914 – the incredible giant spectacular which took over the city to commemorate the city’s involvement in the First World War. Since then, Arriva and Culture Liverpool have worked closely together on other exciting events in the city.

Liverpool’s Director of Culture, Claire McColgan MBE, said: “This is a special year for the city and we’re delighted Arriva will be helping us shout about the incredible programme of events people can enjoy in 2018.

“Arriva are a key transport provider in the city, and by working in partnership with them, we can spread the message about all the unmissable culture experiences and ensure residents and visitors plan their journeys and be part of all the action.

“I’d like to thanks Arriva for being part of this special year and we look forward to working with them on a whole host of exciting projects.”
