A campaign led by Birkenhead’s MP for improvements to bus services has gained a successful outcome for Beechwood and Noctorum residents in Wirral.
A lack of transport facilities in the constituency – especially in the evening – has led to claims of a virtual “curfew” being imposed. It follows on from when Avon Buses’ ceased trading back in October 2018 citing that the cost of running services was in excess of the revenues that they received.
Following a meeting with Arriva North West and Merseytravel back in April 2019, Frank Field reported back to public meetings on each estate that Arriva will accommodate residents’ needs.
Thankfully for residents of Beechwood and Noctorum, Arriva North West will introduce additional weekday journeys on the 492 and 495 services to 9.30pm at night as well as a trial of a new Sunday service operating from approximately 10am to 5pm from Sunday 1st September 2019.
Mr Field said: “I’m so pleased that Arriva has agreed to do all it can to get a pilot scheme up and running quickly – extending services through Beechwood and Noctorum to 9.30pm and having a seven-hour service on Sundays – which will mean so much to people who have no other way of getting around.”
