Plans have been submitted for a brand new, state of the art bus depot for Warrington’s municipal bus company. The move will allow the company to expand its fleet and recruit more drivers and technical staff.
If planning permission is granted, the new depot would be constructed on Dallam Lane, replacing the current depot at Wilderspool Causeway.
These plans form a part of the Southern Gateway regeneration plan, the first phase of which has recently been approved. A total of 160 homes are to be built on the former Warrington Wolves stadium site.
Relocating the bus depot is seen as an important part of the scheme, with the site of the current depot seen also earmarked for redevelopment.
The proposed new depot would offer an increased capacity of 140 vehicles, and also enable the recruitment of more staff to support further growth and modernisation of the company’s operations.
If the plan is given the green light, it is envisaged the new depot will be completed in 2021.
Warrington’s Own Buses’ managing director, Ben Wakerley, said: “This is a vital next step in ensuring the town has the most efficient and technically advanced fleet as possible”
“It will enable us to improve conditions for our hard-working colleagues and ensure that we can continue to improve the service for our passengers”
