Stagecoach Merseyside has expanded its luxury Stagecoach Gold brand in Wirral due to increasing demand on its 38 bus service that operates between West Kirby and Eastham Ferry.
Twelve Scania N-Series based Alexander Dennis Enviro400s have transferred to the North West from the Midlands. New to Kettering depot in 2011, they were deployed on Stagecoach Gold route X4 which runs from Peterborough and Milton Keynes via Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northampton.
At the time, the Gold spec Enviro400s replaced 08-plate ADL Enviro 400-bodied Scania N230UDs that were transferred from Stagecoach Manchester in 2009. They were moved on to the X46 and X47 routes between Thrapston, Raunds, Wellingborough and Northampton with the gold upgrade in 2011.
In typical Stagecoach Gold style, Italian Lazzerini dual-purpose E-leather seats and free WiFi are perks of the Stagecoach Gold package, which Stagecoach see as their golden ticket in the quest to promote public transport – the upgrade in service is often statistically proven to increase patronage on routes that are lucky enough to receive the gold treatment.
Since launching our first Gold route in 2015, the fleet has proven increasingly popular with passengers who love the added luxury and additional benefits the service offers.
One thing to note is they currently lack USB charging facilities as found on the Stagecoach Gold branded Alexander Dennis Enviro300s also found on service 1 that operates between Chester and Liverpool via Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere Port and Birkenhead.
Contactless payment methods are available on board all Stagecoach buses throughout Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire. The highly-sustainable fleet runs off biodiesel and is powered by low emission engines.
The great news is that from the 13th January 2019, some Stagecoach Gold branded Alexander Dennis Enviro300s and some of the newly arrived Scania N230UD/ADL Enviro400 buses will operate on the 38 bus service between West Kirby and Eastham Ferry.
Buses will run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday with hourly services available evenings and Sundays. The 38 bus service calls at popular shopping destinations including Moreton, Birkenhead bus station for Birkenhead Market, Bromborough Croft Retail Park and New Ferry.
Rob Jones, managing director at Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire, said: “Since launching our first Gold route in 2015, the fleet has proven increasingly popular with passengers who love the added luxury and additional benefits the service offers.
“We’re pleased to be adding service number 38 to our existing Gold routes and look forward to rolling out this affordable alternative which will offer passengers enhanced connectivity and comfort during their journey, whether they are commuting to work or seeing friends.
“With the addition of service number 38 to our existing Gold routes, we will be delivering a new level of quality for customers across the region.”
Travel across Stagecoach’s bus network in Wirral including on the Gold buses costs £14 for adults and £7 for Under 19s per week.
