Arriva North West held an event at Liverpool John Lennon Airport today to launch ArrivaClick — the Via powered demand responsive ridesharing minibus service — which starts in the Liverpool City Region on Tuesday 28th August 2018.

Commuters will be able to travel in the areas between Liverpool city centre and Liverpool John Lennon Airport as part of the new initiative from Arriva and its ridesharing partner Via. Using the company’s on-demand ArrivaClick app, passengers can enter their chosen pick-up point and destination as part of a cash-less ridesharing bus service.

As in Sittingbourne, ArrivaClick in Liverpool utilises EVM Low Floor Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 516CDi minibuses. Each vehicle comes complete with 15 leather passenger seats and is specified with at seat Air Conditioning, Free WiFi and USB Charging Points. The vehicles also allow space for wheelchairs and pushchairs, which also benefit from USB Charging Points.

The service will initially use six luxury buses but with a view to running 25 vehicles by summer 2019. Arriva North West plans to create up to 70 new bus-driving jobs for Liverpool, with fifteen available immediately.

ArrivaClick journeys cost from £1 per mile, with fares based on how far the trip is and when passengers travel. Passengers can also bulk-buy travel fares and receive bonus credit. Interestingly the app also has a referral scheme, in which you share your unique code on social media, and when someone signs up and uses the service, you both get bonus credit.

There are no fixed routes which is on par with other similar ridesharing providers, with journeys determined by where passengers want to go within a predefined geofenced area running from the city centre to Liverpool John Lennon Airport and connecting people to transport, work and shopping.

The service will start at 6:30am in the morning to start and finish by 7pm, however, it is envisaged this will be monitored and extended if necessary after launch. Just like the initial service using 6 vehicles, it is anticipated that demand will increase the number of minibuses required before 2019.

Powered by the technology of global ridesharing transportation firm Via, algorithms match passengers travelling in the same direction, dynamically routing vehicles in real-time to find the optimal route for their trip.

ArrivaClick passengers will be charged the full price of your journey if you are not present 60 seconds after the driver arrives to pick you up. You will be sent a reminder SMS with a number to contact the driver when they arrive and if you do not contact them, the vehicle will leave after 60 seconds and you will be charged the full price of the journey.

Passengers can download the ArrivaClick app via the iOS or Android app stores once the service is up and running on Tuesday 28th August 2018.
