First Manchester is celebrating with HOME this weekend as Manchester’s venue for contemporary art, theatre and film marks its first birthday.
This Saturday & Sunday and for the entire Bank Holiday weekend, First Manchester is continuing the May weekend travel offer for only £5.
The new ‘Do More, See More, Bus More’ campaign aims to encourage more people to get out and enjoy weekends without the worry of queues and parking.
This weekend also marks a special first anniversary for Manchester’s venue for contemporary art, theatre and film. Since opening its doors in May 2015, HOME has welcomed over 1 million visits and sold over 210,000 tickets.
Many of the visitors are local people making their first visit to the theatre as part of the Inspire scheme, generously supported by the Oglesby Charitable Trust and transport partners First Manchester and Transport For Greater Manchester.
To celebrate HOME’s first birthday they’re throwing a weekend-long party from Fri 20th – Sun 22nd May, full of art, workshops, music, film previews, family theatre, a rooftop festival and great food and drink.
On Sunday 22nd May, the day will be packed full of fantastic family events, including a screening of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial; theatre show At the End of Everything Else, which is full of puppetry, animation and music and a free puppet workshop by Joseph Richardson (puppeteer of the Goose on the War Horse UK Tour).
HOME will also present The Butterfly’s Adventure, a thrilling free adventure behind the scenes at HOME, presented by Scallywags Theatre Company (pictured), who got together at Salford University, where they now have a residency. Advance tickets for The Butterfly’s Adventure have sold out, but an extra show has been added which you can drop in and book on the day.
Whether visiting the theatre, watching a film or visiting one of Manchester’s many attractions, the special £5 Weekend ticket can save over £7*. The ticket, providing unlimited travel on First buses across Greater Manchester, is exclusively available via the First Bus mTicket App.
The mTicket App is easy to use and is available for free via the App Store and Google Play. Customers simply download the App, register, select from a variety of tickets and navigate the secure payment system. Once the payment section is complete, bus tickets live in a virtual wallet ready for the customer to show the driver.
Clare Sydney, Director of Marketing & Communications at HOME, said, “This weekend marks a wonderful first year for all the visitors and staff at HOME and we’re delighted to celebrate the occasion with our valued supporter First Manchester.”
Dwayne Wells, Commercial Development Manager, First Manchester, said: “We’re delighted to be a supporter of HOME and help celebrate their first birthday. This weekend & next weekend we’re also offering a great opportunity to get out and about by bus with our special £5 ticket offer. We want to encourage more people to think about using the bus and leaving their car at home. Even if you drive through the week, why not give us a try this weekend.”
