It’s Destination Quality for Transdev’s Brand New Engineering Expert
First class reliable service every time – that’s the pledge from busman Ian.Transdev

Rising to the challenge of keeping hundreds of buses on the road across the North of England – Ian Chadwick has joined North of England bus operator Transdev Blazefield as its new Fleet Engineer.

Ian now leads a team of engineering support staff across seven bus depots from Blackburn in the west to Malton in the east, as the company continues to expand its services throughout the region.

Originally from Rainhill on Merseyside, Ian joins Transdev after 13 years in charge of engineering at four of the North West’s biggest urban bus depots across Greater Manchester.

Armed with the experience of getting over 200 buses out on service from each depot, Ian says his new role is all about driving up quality to provide a consistently high performing service for customers, every day.

Ian said: “I have always been passionate about buses, and how as engineers we continually improve to raise quality for my internal customer, the bus driver. He or she can then feel proud to be associated with the organisation and most importantly of all, can deliver a first-class product to our customers.

“Joining a forward-thinking company like Transdev gives me the opportunity to work with a first-rate board and to use my skills and experience to support the wider engineering teams at our depots.

“Engineers are by our nature process driven, but we also like the challenge of finding solutions. I want to build on best practice to help our teams rise to the tough challenges involved in running and maintaining our high-quality bus fleet.”

Transdev Blazefield CEO Alex Hornby said: “I’m delighted Ian has joined us at Transdev. He clearly shares our enduring passion for delivering amazing customer service.

“Ian’s considerable experience in raising performance in some of the region’s biggest bus fleets will be invaluable to us at Transdev, as we continue to grow our business while offering continuously rising standards of quality to our customers.

“Ian is already working closely with the engineering teams at each of our seven depots in Lancashire and Yorkshire, and I’m looking forward to him making a positive and sustained difference where it really counts – in the reliability of all our bus services right across the North.”

Ian Chadwick entered the bus industry in 1981 as an apprentice fitter at the Merseyside Transport bus depot in St Helens, remaining with the depot through various changes of ownership before progressing to become shift chargehand.

His first management post saw him promoted just six months after a move to the Rock Ferry depot in Birkenhead to become Engineering Manager. After implementing a series of quality improvements, Ian moved to Greater Manchester and became a rising star within the service support team, taking charge of engineering at depots in Manchester, Wigan, Oldham and Bolton.

Away from the bus depot, Ian’s passion is classic cars – he’s currently restoring a 1983 Ford Capri and a 1995 Volvo T5R. He also enjoys reading – not just workshop manuals – and even though his playing days are behind him, he’s a keen follower of Rugby League.
