Theirs is a love like no other, that has spanned an age-defying length of time, and when a Facebook friend request notification appeared on her phone, life was about to change for the better.
Always a romantic at heart, Sarah Bond from Walton, never stopped looking for her one true love.
Civil Servant Sarah, and Royal Mail worker Barry, first started dating when they were 18, but sadly, after four happy years together, the couple went their separate ways.
Thanks to the power of Facebook, Sarah, 39 and Barry, 43 from Southport, reconnected by the click of a button, where one friend request sparked the romance of a lifetime.
Sarah commented: “When I received the friend request from Barry, it felt like a real blast from the past. We hit it off right from the start and I felt like I was getting to know an old friend all over again.”
Enjoying their first date in 2014 at a local bar in Southport, Sarah and Barry have enjoyed a string of romantic dates, and moved in together in December last year, where the pair enjoyed their first Christmas at their joint home in Southport.
Barry commented: “I always felt that Sarah and I would somehow reconnect, whether that was as friends or more, either way I wouldn’t change it for the world and I’m so glad that I took a chance and sent that friend request.”
After Arriva launched a city-wide search to find Merseyside’s most loved-up couple, Sarah took another leap of faith and entered herself and Barry into the Valentine’s Day competition.
Once again, luck was on their side and Sarah and Barry were crowned Merseyside’s most romantic couple after Sarah revealed Barry’s romantic ways, and the pair went on to enjoy a date night and three-year anniversary celebrations with a twist.
Courtesy of Arriva buses, the loved-up couple were picked up from their home together in Southport and were welcomed onboard an Arriva Love Bus complete with a champagne reception, romantic mood lighting and rose petal lined aisles.
After a private journey through the romantic streets of Liverpool, the pair were taken to New York inspired eatery, Neighbourhood where they enjoyed a three-course Valentine’s Day dinner and cocktails.
Lisa Pearson, Head of Marketing commented: “We wanted to show our passengers the love Valentine’s Day and when we heard Sarah & Barry’s story we couldn’t resist lending a helping hand to make sure that the most loved-up couple in Merseyside enjoyed this special day.”
For those celebrating a belated Valentine’s Day, Arriva is offering all passengers who purchase the special Valentine’s ticket via the m-ticket app, can bring a friend on board for free until the 18th February.
Sarah commented: “Our date night on board the Love Bus was an amazing experience and a Valentine’s Day and anniversary that we will cherish forever. I really never thought that I’d have the chance to say that I’ve enjoyed a champagne reception on an exclusive bus journey.”
