On Friday nights/Saturday mornings buses run from Liverpool City Centre, Sir Thomas Street to Chester Centre or to Ellesmere Port, and there are buses from Liverpool One Bus Station to Liverpool Airport via Penny Lane every night.

Late night train services

On Friday nights/Saturday mornings 14 and 21 December and Saturday nights/Sunday mornings 15 and 22 December trains will run a limited service at 1.30am from Liverpool Central to Hooton, stopping only at Birkenhead Central, Bebington, Bromborough and Hooton stations; and from Liverpool Central to Southport, stopping only at Waterloo, Formby and Southport stations. Passengers will only be allowed to board services at Liverpool Central. This is a drop off service only.

The late night train fare will be £3. If you have purchased a return or day saver ticket it will be valid on the late trains even though the journey times are in the early hours of the following day. Valid Railpass, Trio and Saveaway tickets and concessionary passes will be accepted.

Cllr Liam Robinson, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Portfolio Holder, said: “Late night services are back again this year to give people more choice when it comes to travelling around the city region during the festive season. Getting home from a Christmas night out can be difficult and costly, so we hope that as many people as possible take advantage of these services in the run up to Christmas.”

Sorry but this isn’t news. These routes run THROUGHOUT THE YEAR and not especially at Christmas.
It is a pity Cllr Liam Robinson is not interested in providing an evening service to the Beechwood/Noctorum estates on the Wirral and visitors buses for Clatterbridge and Arrowe Park Hospitals. Back to the car I’m afraid!

It may not be news in terms of the night buses, it certainly is news about the night train services that complement the bus services. Either way, not everyone knows about the night buses, so it’s still a worthy mention.
