A rapid way from Liverpool to Chester by Stagecoach

Stagecoach Merseyside & South Lancashire introduced their new X8 service on the 7th September, providing a frequent service from Liverpool and Chester enabling shoppers from both cities to reach key destinations like Liverpool One and Cheshire Oaks.

The new service runs seven days a week, every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, every hour on Sundays and bank holidays and enables commuters to travel between Liverpool and Chester in just over an hour – the fastest bus service currently available.

Elisabeth Tasker, Managing Director at Stagecoach, said: “This is set to be an incredibly popular route, which connects people in Liverpool and Chester with some of the best leisure, shopping and tourism activity in the North West.

“Shoppers from both cities are now able to reach brilliant retail and leisure destinations including Cheshire Oaks, Liverpool ONE and great family attractions like the Blue Planet Aquarium and Chester Zoo in under one hour.

“We’re focused on delivering a fast, affordable and friendly service for our passengers and launching this new route is no exception. Taking the bus is fast becoming the most convenient and sustainable transport option and we hope that this new rapid service will encourage people to leave the car at home, and try this option instead!”

The service runs from Chester Bus Exchange, Chester Foregate Street and the Rail station to Hoole Road then via the M53 motorway to Ellesmere Port bus and rail stations and on to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. It then travels up to Bromborough by the M53 motorway and along the A41 to Liverpool, where it terminates in the heart of the city centre.

Buses run limited stop throughout and provide much faster journey times for those customers travelling longer distances than Quality Bus Network services 1 and 2. The service also provides new direct links from Chester Rail Station to Cheshire Oaks and a new regular link from the Rail Station to the Bus Exchange.

People travelling on the X8 route are also able to enjoy free and speedy Wi-Fi access on board, helping them have a productive and enjoyable commute. To connect all they have to do is fill in a short questionnaire telling Stagecoach how often they travel on the service if they think the service is value for money and if they think the service is reliable.

The new X8 service is sadly not part of the Merseytravel ‘Quality Bus’ partnership that applies on services 1, 2 and X2, and so only Stagecoach tickets and passes are valid for travel. That said, a Dayrider Plus ticket is priced at only £4 and covers the entire route. Stagecoach are however working with the train operating companies to introduce through tickets from the national rail network for Cheshire Oaks.
