Stagecoach Merseyside & South Lancashire has launched a new half hourly limited stop service between Liverpool and Widnes. Providing an additional boost in bus services for passengers travelling to Liverpool One, Speke and Widnes.

The brand new cut-price X5 express service will connect Widnes to Liverpool One via Speke Boulevard, providing shoppers with a handy and cost-effective route to the heart of Liverpool city centre in under an hour.

Rob Jones, Managing Director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “Our new X5 service will cut the hassle and the price of travel for people journeying into Liverpool city centre from Widnes.

“This is a key route for commuters and people travelling into the city to enjoy a day’s shopping or leisure activity – so we’re delighted to be providing a quick, comfortable, and affordable means of travel for them.

“With stats showing that around 29 per cent of shoppers on UK High Streets use the bus to get to and from the city centre – buses are the lifeblood of our high street shops. We’re pleased to be helping shoppers and boosting city centre footfall and look forward to welcoming new and existing passengers on this speedy express service.”

The new service, which launched this month, is available Monday to Saturday. Passengers can enjoy the use of charging points and free WiFi on the journey.

The X5 has much shorter journey time as it has fewer stops – helping people get to their destination even faster.

The new route will call at:

  • Lunts Heath, Derby Road roundabout
  • Moorfield Road, The Crows Nest
  • Widnes, Green Oaks
  • Ditton New Inn
  • Western Ave, Speke Boulevard
  • Aigburth Road, Mersey Road
  • Liverpool One

The new service offers great value tickets too. Adult tickets cost £2.20 one way, £4.20 for an all-day ticket, or all-week for £14. Under-19s pay £1.10 one way, £2.10 all day and £7 for an all-week ticket.

Regular travellers can benefit from unlimited travel in their chosen travel zone when they buy a four week and monthly Xtra ticket, or a student bus pass – unirider.

Stagecoach buses offer contactless payment too – making the journey even more convenient. For more information, visit stagecoachbus.com, you can also follow the company on Twitter at @StagecoachMCSL for company updates.
